[Proverb.] the poet

As I’m sure you’ve realized by now we like to provide you with a mix of music you know and love, and random kids you’ve never heard about, but will come to love. [Proverb.] the poet is a freshman at NYU who’s bringing it with a soulful, down to earth, west coast sound.

He’s probably the youngest artist we’ve ever featured, but he’s promising. Speaking for myself (and not necessarily for our other bloggers) I’m a secular person. It seems that most of Proverb’s inspiration comes from his faith. Though that particular aspect of his music isn’t something I identify with personally I love the outcome. Whether you’re Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Zoroastrian, Atheist, whatever you can appreciate the beauty he brings to the art form.

It’ll be cool to see what he does after 4 years at NYU, but for now it’s great to see that a lot of what we love in the legends of hip hop and the successful emcees of today is rubbing off on those who are just coming up.

Check him out. His album For The Kids is available on CDBaby and on iTunes. You can also check him out on myspace. I really like his track Sunday Thoughts, give it a listen if you’ve got a minute.
