Luke Rain, C-Tru and Lysee J all met in Hollywood, CA at a late night hotel room listening party after the 2013 ASCAP Expo. They were all impressed with the others’ talent and decided to keep in touch as part of what has become known as the 1727 Collective, (“seventeen twenty seven”, named after the hotel room number at the Loews Hollywood, began with 30 members and has grown over the past 18 months). Later that year Luke Rain met Brooklyn based producer Effici3nt Beatz at producer website iStandard’s Beat Camp in NYC, where the beat maker shared some of his work, including the instrumental that would become “Same Team.” The smooth, laid back tone inspired Luke to write his verse as an appreciation to the friends and family that have supported him and showed him love. He then sent the song to C-Tru and Lysee, who layed down their vocals and made the song come to life. Lysee shared the song with her friend and collaborator Semaj the Poet who was inspired to write a verse that was so good the crew decided to add it to the collaboration.
On their return to the ASCAP Expo in 2014 the crew shot the “Same Team” video. Directed/edited by Luke Rain and shot in large part by Luke and C-Tru, the video documents a day in the life of the artists as they attend the music creators expo. From Luke waking up in the Hollywood Hills and making his way to the Expo, all the artists meeting up at the hotel, C-Tru rapping on top of the Hollywood and Highland center while running into friends and collaborators, Lysee singing at sunset at Runyon Canyon park and Semaj driving through LA to end up at a party culminating in a champagne toast with everyone involved. Same Team is a song and video dedicated to the people who support the artists they care about, and the teammates that make the dream possible.
