Esperanza’s new project Emily’s D+Evolution and the tour will hopefully rekindle her childhood interest in theater, poetry and movement. Spaulding explained, “Emily is my middle name, and I’m using this fresh persona as my inner navigator. This project is about going back and reclaiming un-cultivated curiosity, and using it as a compass to move forward and expand. My hope for this group is to create a world around each song, there are a lot of juicy themes and stories in the music. We will be staging the songs as much as we play them, using characters, video, and the movement of our bodies.”

Spalding has become a as big a star as contemporary jazz can possibly produce through previous releases Chamber Music Society and Radio Music Society.  She was even the benefactor of the Grammy’s trademark “we’re-going-left-so-people-think-we’re-tuned-in” upset victory when she won ‘Best New Artist’ over Justin Bieber. She will be performing at the SF Jazz center but all of the shows are sold out.  Make sure you get to this one!
