While many of her Toronto contemporaries showcase their sensitivity over gauzy, reverb-heavy beats, Tasha The Amazon takes to each track with a match and a can of kerosene. Produced by Tasha and her production partner Danthrax, “Watch It Burn” finds the German-Jamaican rapper mercilessly attacking an apocalyptic beat with a fiery, Kendrick Lamar-like flow. Premiered today by High Snobiety, the new video for “Watch It Burn” takes the title concept literally, with Tasha and some compadres launching fireworks into the night sky, while Tasha starts a raging bonfire with a napalm gun. “Watch It Burn” is a typically intense track from Die Every Day, Tasha’s latest EP, a blistering assault packed with thumping beats, ferocious verses, and anarchic lyrics. Well received by critics on both sides of the border, Die Every Day recently earned a nomination for Rap Recording of the Year in the Juno Awards, Canada’s biggest music award show, placing her alongside fellow nominees Drake, Tory Lanez, Belly, and Jazz Cartier.
Explains Tasha to High Snobiety, “I love style, but I’ve always found more power in not giving a fuck about brands or labels. This video has that real power: Just me and my mob… and some explosions.”
